Here’s an Idea! Say Thank You!

Here’s an idea! Say thank you!

Whenever I hear or see an advertisement that looks/ sounds something like, “call us today and double your sales” or “our proven, 10 step, sales system” or the almighty “the first 20 callers will not only receive our XYZ business package but a free start up guide to ABC,”  I laugh hysterically.  I find myself imagining (with a healthy dose of sarcasm) the one misguided business professional thinking to himself, “OOOOoooooooo, I have to have this immediately!!!  Where do I sign up?”

One day, real soon I want to place a billboard on 95 in response to all of these cheesy ads that you see on radio, tv and print that reads, “HERE’S AN IDEA: Be good at what you do, commit to grow and say thank you every now and then!!!”

The really cool thing in the new world of communication via internet, social media, blogging, 2.0 interaction, etc. is the transparency that it creates.  For example, if a restaurant in the area is bad, then all of your friends will be talking about it on the internet, sharing bad comments, posting negative reviews…  In this setting, it is an absolute must that people are both appreciative and good at what they do.  Quite simply, there is no more concealing of bad products/ services with smoke, mirrors and underhanded marketing/ sales techniques.  With that being said, be who you are, be that well and say thank you every now and then.

Below are a few ideas on being good at what you do and saying thank you!

Re-invent yourself: Improvement is something that we talk about daily in our classes.  “Improvement is taking your best and making it better.”  Be creative, learn from experts, network, work hard and evolve.  One of my favorite quotes by Brian Tracy says it all, “Smart people are never impressed with their own intelligence and stupid people always are.”  That’s simply because smart people never stop working on themselves.

Appreciation inventory: How many people were you able to give a genuine compliment too?  How many people did you say thank you too?  How many people, because of you, feel confident in who/ what they are?  Make a list and analyze.

Be happy but don’t settle:  Today is different than yesterday and tomorrow is different than today.  Life has peaks and valleys just like the stock ticker on CNN.  Settling is the onset of trending down.  On the other hand, not settling for anything but quality provides at atmosphere of growth.

Be good at what you do, then great, then be outstanding, then be an expert!!  Enough said!!

Just some thoughts for the day!!  Interested to hear your feedback!!  And btw, a big thanks to our families at Amerikick Langhorne.  It is a student body like the one at Amerikick Langhorne that makes what we do so rewarding.  Thank you.
